Samantha Louis-Jean, soprano

French-Canadian soprano Samantha Louis-Jean combines a "superbly projected, luminous" and "supple and intoxicating voice" with her "impressive acting qualities, driven by great sensitivity". At the beginning of 2020, she appeared at the Théâtre de Caen and at the Grand Théâtre der Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg as Céphise in Rameau's Pygmalion and as Vénus in Mondonville's L'Amour et Psyché together with the Ensemble Concert d'Astrée under Emmanuelle Haïm. In the same production she made guest appearances at the Opéra de Lille in 2019 and at the Opéra de Dijon in 2018, where she sang all four female roles in a new production of Les contes d'Hoffmann with great success the year before.

Other engagements in recent seasons have taken her to the Opéra de Vichy, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the Montpellier Opera, the Slowacki Theater Kraków, the Atelier lyrique de Tourcoing, the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, the Festival d 'Opéra de Québec and the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music.

In addition to numerous baroque opera and oratorio roles such as Angelica (Orlando), Morgana (Alcina), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas) and Vagaus (Juditha triumphans), the soprano's repertoire includes roles such as Mélisande (Pelléas et Mélisande), Elvira (L'italiana in Algeri), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice) and Paride in Gluck's Paride ed Elena. She has worked with conductors such as Christophe Rousset, Jean-Claude Malgoire and directors such as Robin Orlyn, Mikaël Serre, Christian Schiaretti, Éric Vigié, among others.

Samantha Louis-Jean graduated from the University of Montreal and made her operatic debut as Euridice in Monteverdi's Orfeo at the Montreal Baroque Festival.
