Matty Oxtoby is 17 years old and a lower sixth former at Reigate Grammar School.  He started to play piano at the age of 5 and is taught by Andrew Zolinsky, having previously been a pupil of the late Niel Immelman.  He is in his sixth year attending the Royal College of Music Junior Department where he also studies cello and composition.

He enjoys all types of piano playing be it solo work, chamber music or accompanying friends in their performances.  Matty reached the last 25 piano entrants of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in 2022 and later that year obtained his LRSM diploma with distinction.  He was also a runner up in the 2022 RCMJD Barbara Boissard Junior Concerto Competition.

Away from piano, he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra for 2023 playing cello.  Amongst his composition successes, he was a winner of the BBC Young Composer Competition in 2020 which resulted in a commission for the BBC Concert Orchestra that was broadcast on Radio 3.  In 2022, he won the RCMJD Joan Weller Composition Competition and the inaugural Surrey Hills International Music Festival Young Composer Competition.
