Hanhan Qu was born in 2009 and is an academic and music scholar at Guildford High School. She has fostered a passion for music-making from a young age, currently studying as a joint principal pianist and flautist at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, with Richard Uttley and Katie Bedford, respectively. Alongside this she also enjoys conducting and participating in a variety of chamber ensembles at the RCMJD.
Hanhan is an avid soloist and chamber musician, having made her concerto debut at the age of 11, performing the 1st Movement of Beethoven’s 1st Piano Concerto at the Cadenza International Summer Music School, conducted by Julian Jacobson, Chairman of the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe. Among her recent accomplishments, she is the youngest-ever winner of the Woking Young Musician of the Year title in the Woking Young Musician competition. She was also awarded Chamber Musician of the Year, with her younger brother Alex, a talented musician in his own right. She now eagerly anticipates her flute concerto debut of the Chaminade Concertino with the Woking Symphony Orchestra in January 2025.
As a flautist in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, Hanhan has performed in many prestigious concert venues, including the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC Proms. Through NYO, she enjoys inspiring young musicians and promoting musical collaboration, acting as an ambassador for the ‘As One’ social media project.
Beyond music, Hanhan also enjoys debating, public speaking and cross country.
